Blanca
Blanca
By Iyawata
You came like
A one-woman tango
Embracing me
Taking me to the edge
Totally
True
To yourself.
No emtion unexpressed
Eating cake for lunch
Dancing until dawn
Offering no excuses
For your absences
Crystal clear
You chose
Passion--Life--Family
Your example
Gave me courage
To follow my dreams
Each time I doubt
I remember the gleam in your eyes
Your hearty Argentine laugh
Embracing life.

A NEW WORLD
A NEW WORLD : POST COLUMBUS MUSINGS
BY IYAWATA
Rosita watched quietly on her perch
Eyeing the little Americana with cunning lust
She scanned her sunburned cheeks
Watched the Nikon around her neck
Swing like a pendulum
Rosita marked her time
Winked at the shoeshine boys
Then, slithered toward the gringa
Ready to pounce.
The little Americana
Foggy from last night's wine
Took in Santa Domingo's vistas
Unaware of her stalker
Bargains,colors, blaring bachatas
A day of adventure;
She leaned forward to examine
Today's delightful products.
Rosita moved closer
Her long fingers spread open
She placed her hand
Inches away from the backpack.
Visions of her new identity
Her arrival in Neueva York
Fed her hungry hands.
She opened the zipper
The wallet
The new world
Hers
In an instant.

Friends
Friends
by Iyawata
Friends open doors
To undiscovered
Parts of ourselves
Some doors
Burst free
Light-hearted
Laughter
Bring us
Shoulder to shoulder
Christening
Brothers or sisters
Others open wide
Dark caverns
Holding things
Avoided
Mirrors reflecting
Stinging truths
Of a Self

Stinging truths
Of a Self
Disowned
Birthing
Gut wrenching
Wisdom
Pushing beyond
Expectations
Boundaries
Or limits
We find
Friends open doors
Friends open hearts
Raise us higher
Toward heaven
